Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD) held its Orientation Day for its second batch of design students on 13th August 2016 at NCUI Auditorium (Opposite Siri Fort Auditorium). The event was brimming with an air of excitement and anxiousness as the students walked through the doors accompanied by their parents and siblings. This was their first step as they embarked on a thrilling journey towards becoming accomplished artists and designers.
The event commenced with students arriving at the registration counter to collect their kit. The proceedings for the day were officially initiated with ‘Lighting of the ceremonious lamp’ invoking the waves of knowledge and positivity.
Dr. Jitin Chadha, Director at IIAD, took the podium to address the gathering. He spoke about the journey of IIAD, the state-of-the-art facilities it has to offer to its students and the path that the institute has painstakingly curated to nurture the talent of each student who walks in through the doors. He extended a warm welcome to the new batch and wished them luck for a shining and exciting future ahead.
Mr. Nikhil Arora, currently heading We Work, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He gave an inspiring talk to the budding designers and artists wherein he spoke about the three mantras one must follow in life – be passionate about your work, make people matter and lastly aim at becoming missionaries and not mercenaries in all walks of life. Following Mr. Arora’s address was Ms. Usha Nehru Patel, Dean – Academic at IIAD. She addressed the students and urged them to dream and be young at heart. She began her talk by showing the students a beautiful video titled ‘Release Me’ that gave the message of releasing one’s creativity and letting it soar high.
On the Orientation Day the new batch of students were introduced to the Faculty and Staff of IIAD. The Head of Administration, Ms. Simrat Joshi, took them through the highlights of the Course Book to give them a brief overview of the year ahead and what it would entail. This entire event is organised with the sole purpose of getting the students acquainted with the institute. Ms. Bhavvna Jolly gave the Vote of Thanks.
Each new student lit a “diya” a gesture that symbolises awakening of Atmajyoti within oneself. The students and parents got a chance to interact with the IIAD Faculty and Team over lunch.
