UI or UX Design: What to Choose?
We know that UI Design and UX Design are two big buzz words in the design discipline! In the previous post we demystified the difference between UI vs. UX, in this post we break down the roles of a UI Designer and a UX Designer, to help you choose a career pathway that you might feel is right for you.

Let’s dive in and understand the different roles of a UI Designer and a UX Designer, and their impact!

Stepping into a UX Designer’s Shoes!
UX Designers are a part of the project from the get go, they are motivated to provide the best user experience from the finished product. Some of the things you need to do as a UX Designer are:
You need to know your user
Good product experience starts with understanding the user and creating a well researched product for them.
You need to know your product
Once you understand the user, you need to draw out the product requirements by creating user journeys and empathy maps.
You put two and two together in a prototype
Creating wireframes and prototypes based on user flow is a must, this is followed by planning, development and testing.
You are ready to run the show
Great, you are now all set to coordinate with the rest of the team of developers, designers and the other aspects of the product.

Stepping into a UI Designer’s Shoes!
The UX Designer sets up the UI Designer by providing the wireframes and prototypes, but it is important to be involved in the early stages of the process. Some of the things you need to do as a UI Designer are:
You drive the design
The product look and feel are powered by your design research, branding and graphics.
You finish what was started
Developing a design based on the wireframes and prototypes as per the UX design specification
You pilot the final product
Making the design responsive for multiple screens and devices, implementation with the developer, analysing and testing will all happen under you.

Regardless of which career path you choose to follow, learning the roles and basic skills for both UX and UI can lead to more career success and opportunities.
