The students of fashion design, communication design and interior architecture and design were assigned an interesting project titled ‘Nearness Farness’, and organised a student work exhibition to showcase their work. The students were divided into groups to include students from different programmes. Each group explored various metro stations on Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line. The yellow line has 37 different stations with 3 major intersection points at HUDA City Centre, Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate.
A metro station is like a melting pot with people from varying regions, economic backgrounds and livelihoods sharing common space for a fleeting moment or two. By using their perception, approximation and photography skills, students had to visually document their observations. Through this exercise students reflected upon human behaviour and human interaction with the immediate environment. They observed how social spaces of individuals vary under different circumstances. Furthermore, they studied body language and body angling of the commuters, branding, advertisements, media, safety measures and the general upkeep of the metro station.
