About Mela Phulkari
This event is an ode to ‘Punjab’, depicting the past as well as present socio-cultural narratives through the art of handcrafted Phulkari. Phulkari is an iconic embroidery technique signature to the Punjab region with its origins in the famous love story of Heer & Ranjha (a love tale) by Waris Shah. The intricate motifs can be commonly seen on dupattas, shawls and various other garments. The technique is practised by approximately 3000 women in all of Punjab with a majority of the work being done in Dukheri, near Patiala.
