IIAD Design Talks

In an effort to bridge the gap between industry and students, The Indian Institute Of Art Design is hosting monthly webinars - IIAD Design Talks with the creme de la creme of the Indian as well as the International design sphere. It is a platform where design experts share their views on requirements, trends, and proceedings in the current design domain. These webinars provide the students with insights regarding various aspects like industry trends, technological innovation, sustainability, ethics in fashion, building a design sense, etc. These talks and webinars have proven to be of great value to the students, especially during the tumultuous times of the ongoing pandemic.

Some of the notable speakers during the months of November 2020 Till March 2021 have been:

Rohit K. Gulati: The founder of Incubis, one of India’s leading architecture and design firms, provides services related to Master Planning, Plant & Operations Design, Architecture, Engineering Services, Plumbing, Sewerage, and much more. With over 22 years of experience as a master planner, architect, and designer Mr. Gulati has led various successful projects like ‘Frugal innovation’ for Ginger ‘Smart’ hotels and for multiple industries like the Tata Housing, Essar Group and GE Healthcare. Amongst many things he helped design the iconic 100m long “Mudra'' installation, which is often regarded as an internationally acclaimed symbol for the new T3 airport terminal in New Delhi.

Nohar Nath: Kiabza is a re-commerce platform that enables users to buy and sell pre-owned branded products at discounted prices. Mr.Nohar Nath is the founder and Ceo of Kiabza, and he has 20+ years of experience in the Textile and Fashion Industry. He successfully ran Kishco Group’s global business, which is primarily based on recycling/upcycling of producer and consumer textile wastes of all types.

Sujata Biswas & Taniya Biswas: The Founders of SUTA provide a wide range of handmade products made by more than 1400 weavers. Sujata Biswas, is an alumna of IIFT Delhi, and Taniya completed her engineering from NIT Rourkela. Despite not being from the textile industry, the two sisters started the company in 2016. Suta is a fashion design house which focuses on producing ethnic designs with a contemporary twist, inspired by the rich textile heritage of India. It specializes in making graceful,bold and elegant designs. Through its various ventures Suta’s aims to have a positive and constructive impact on society.

Sonia Manchanda: A design strategist, graphic designer, and designpreneur with more than 20 years of experience in the design industry, Sonia Manchanda has worked on numerous projects for both national and international clients. She is a founding partner at Spread Design + Learning, which is a designing company that integrates design knowledge, business, and design practices. One of her significant works is - “The Dream: in Project”. It is an open innovation and design research project, the role of design in emerging economies, shifting its focus from people's needs to their dreams, to create inclusive design strategies, empowering people everywhere to dream, believe and realise.

Bidisha Sinha: Senior associate at Zaha Hadid architect Ms.Bidisha Sinha is an architectural professional and designer with more than 20 years of experience in this domain.Bidisha was awarded the prestigious Stirling Prize for her contribution for Evelyn Grace Academy (2010). She was further felicitated with the RIBA London award for her work at the Science Museum in London.
