Barmer – FabIndia
The third year students in the Fashion Design programme at IIAD recently visited Barmer, Rajasthan as part of the first phase of a live project with Fabindia that they will shortly begin work on in the upcoming semester. The brand is committed to the development of craft clusters and revival of indigenous techniques in print, embroidery, weaving among other areas of apparel and textile design. The students worked with 5 clusters and 3 techniques including reverse applique, embroidery and gudari. During their trip, they completed several primary processes that will now be used to create the garment collection for Fabindia. The trip was unique, in that, this was an ‘engagement trip’ that goes beyond observation and exploration, and required students to take the learning, synthesize it and apply it as a design intervention to a live project. The students have captured their experiences in Barmer.
