Leading Fashion Designer Tarun Tahiliani, co-Founder of Ensemble – India’s first multi-designer boutique, is best known for his ability to combine traditional aesthetics with modern design. He established the Tahiliani Design studio in 1990. Over the years, Tarun Tahiliani has also become known for his bridalwear.
He visited the IIAD campus for the 2019 Graduation show and had a chance to look at the work presented by the students. He was impressed by the depth of understanding of the context and technique that the students showed in their work. While viewing the Denim Project display, he talked about how the exhibition highlighted the pedagogy at IIAD where students are taught from the genesis of something – “from cotton, spinning to all the techniques”.
He also greatly appreciated the diversity at IIAD. In a world that is being increasingly taken over by Western identity, he stressed the importance of students interpreting their upbringing in their designs, something he felt made the work being done by the students at IIAD unique.
Mr Tahiliani interacted with the students and discussed how it was vital for a fashion designer to create an identity for themselves. It helps in staying connected in a world that is rapidly changing and evolving.
