Suman Bhandary is a typeface designer and font developer who graduated with a MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading, UK and a recipient of the prestigious Charles Wallace Scholarship. He has contributed as a Principal Designer of the font “Mina” published by Google Fonts and featured by Google Design, in 2017. He specialises in working with multilingual Indian and Latin typeface design briefs, its process and production for the design.
As a Graphic Design Consultant at the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), Suman was involved in branding for the Amazon India Fashion Week 2018, that included print and digital media. He contributed to the field of advertising over a period of 4 years working for agencies like D & H Blurb Communication and Wizmore Communications and managed a group of art directors to conceive ideas, initiate and supervise the advertising campaigns.
In 2017, Suman presented his paper as part of his design research practice during the Typography Day conference, Colombo, with a key focus on the diversity and role of multilingual typographic environments.
Focuses mainly into knowledge transfer projects through graphic design thinking and tries to integrate research into practice through the projects initiated by the students. Also keen to develop tools for education related to typography and graphic communication.
Dedicating himself with keen focus on academic research based on typography and type design primarily on Indian scripts and undertaking revival projects related to typeface design.
