Interior Architecture & Design
Madhu Pandit is the Associate Professor in the Interior Architecture and Design Department at the Indian Institute of Art & Design.
As Partner at NMA (Neeraj Manchanda Architects, founded 1990), an award winning Architectural and Interior Design practice based in New Delhi, Madhu has enjoyed balancing teaching with professional practice for several years now.. NMA has worked successfully with clients and
stakeholders across projects in the institutional, commercial, residential, and industrial domains in India, Nepal, and Vietnam Madhu has a wide body of work in Adaptive Reuse (breathing new life into old) for historical buildings.
In 1986 she set up practice with TEAM (Team for Engineering Architecture & Management) which was awarded the New Wing National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi in an open National competition. Here she worked on several museum and exhibition design projects like Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust, Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Trust in New Delhi and the traveling exhibition for Festival of Japan in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.
She was the founder member of GRAAM (Group for Relevant Architecture and Appropriate Methods) where she traveled in the interiors of Rajasthan conducting training programs for appropriate building methods especially with local women as part of women’s empowerment initiative for the Lok Jumbish project. At GRAAM she also worked with Department of Science & Technology, J & K for researching & documenting indigenous building methods in the regions of Ladakh and Jammu.
Madhu has taught as Visiting Faculty/Thesis Mentor/External Examiner and headed Design Studios at leading Schools of Architecture since the 90’s. More recently, for the last two years, she was a mentor with Masters’ Interior Architecture at Sushant School of Art & Architecture, Gurugram, Haryana.
She is a graduate of School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi.
