Pranay Mangrati graduated from National Institute of Fashion Technology, He is now an associate professor with the Indian Institute of Art & Design and even though he is essentially a product designer at the core, he prefers not being confined to one disciplinary box.
He is passionate about using design as a tool for bringing meaningful change and feels that this thought is his main motivation and inspiration to be connected to the world of design. He worked in the horological industry for a major part of his career, with both analogue as well as digital watches, where he started as an intern to become the design head, and ultimately partner in creating their own brand Timera, Besides wristwatches he has dabbled in interesting areas such as visual merchandising, packaging, prop design for brands like Lucent, Elle Deco and Elle Paris, while living in Hong Kong. Early on in his career he also successfully partnered with an ex-employer to design and manufacture mobile accessories when the mobile phone boom was just starting in India. Lately he has also worked as a design consultant to some major watch brands, and product component manufacturers in the domestic market as well as brands in the middle east and Hong Kong. After working with wrist-wear, he started a venture with a sustainable hand made lighting brand, Prafound, using sustainable reclaimed wood before finally venturing into teaching.
He has earlier taught product design and accessory design at Pearl Academy, before he moved to IIAD.
