Applicant Evaluation Process

IIAD follows a TWO-STEP evaluation procedure for admission to its courses. Candidates will have to clear :
1. The IIAD Design Aptitude Test (iDAT)

Students applying for Interior Architecture & Design can be exempt from the iDAT written test based on their NATA score. Should they attain the required cut off score they will progress directly for their Portfolio Assessment and Interview.

What is the iDAT examination?

The iDAT is a mandatory two hours and thirty minutes test for all applicants, and consists of two sections : Section A on Logical Reasoning and Section B on Creative Thinking and Visual Ability. The examination will be administered at prescribed testing centres only.

The IIAD Admission Committee will review each student's aptitude for observation, drawing and design skills, imaginative and creative expression, and visual and communication strengths.

Test papers and answer sheets will be supplied by the IIAD Examination Centre on the day of testing.

Where will the iDAT examinations be held?

iDAT testing will take place at the following city centres :

  • New Delhi

What does the Portfolio Assessment and Studio Simulation entail?

Portfolio Assessment : A personally developed portfolio is desirable and this would be evaluated during the Studio Simulation. A portfolio need not match professional standards, but must reflect a candidate's interest and aptitude for design as well as a flair for visual expression and overall aesthetic sensibility. Here's an interesting video on How to create an impressive portfolio for Design Entrance Exams.

Studio Simulation : This is a personal interaction session conducted in a studio simulated environment to understand a candidate's interest in the discipline, evaluate their design aptitude, test their ability to innovate and assess their capacity to comprehend information and solve problems.

Lateral Entry

Lateral entry into the programme (fashion design/communication design/interior architecture & design) is possible for students who have successfully completed the previous year(s) of their design degree/diploma programme from a nationally or internationally recognized Design Institute.
