Usha Iyer has about 30 years of experience in the field of advertising and design. The initial 15 years of work includes running one's own studio to cater to the packaging and design requirements of various clients and being part of the creative department of a leading advertising agency. Since 2000, Usha has been teaching design with short stints in between jobs to be a student counsellor, to work in the Publication Industry and so on. Student interaction has now become part and parcel of the person she is. Forever enthusiastic about design solutions that emerge through discussion and brainstorming, her students love the fact that they are treated as adults and are allowed to explore and develop freely and take ownership of their work. Seeing them emerge into thinking, sensitive designers is her biggest high. Usha's hobbies are drawing, Indian classical music, gardening, sewing and embroidery. The current project on hand is an illustrated cookbook for her daughters, which includes some traditional Tamil Brahman rituals and some documentation of the utensils and kolams. Usha also designs lamps and is a pen and ink artist.
