An accomplished fashion designer as well as an entrepreneur, Rajat Jain is a dynamic artist and design professional with a keen interest in art history. He is the founder and director at Somersault, a design studio engaged in research and development along with production for international fashion designers like Tony Cohen, Addy Van Den Krommenacker, Hofmann, Naeem Khan, Elie Tahari amongst others.
A National Institute for Fashion Technology graduate, Rajat has worked with some of the most renowned fashion labels such as Kavita Bhartia and Amit Aggarwal. He has also been actively involved in designing and manufacturing for European and American high-fashion womenswear brands.
He specialises in socio-cultural anthropology of the world and often derives inspiration from modern art for his designs. In his early pursuits, his work focused on the intricacies of traditional embroidery and print techniques, which he later incorporated in designing collection for some established designers.
Along with his impressive industry experience, Rajat has also been an educator in fashion design at leading design schools in India. His core area of expertise is research, critical thinking, trend analysis and forecast. He has also conducted workshops at renowned establishments such as University of Technology, Sydney and LISAA School of Art and Design, Paris.
While mentoring future designers, he lays emphasis on undertaking research oriented work, creating exquisite illustrations, designing expressive graphics and experimenting with innovative design concepts. An avid traveller and nature lover, he enjoys gardening when not teaching.
