Kingston School of Art was established in the year 1875 and it’s a heritage that we are very proud of. We have retained many of the traditional disciplines and facilities from that period: fine art studios, printmaking, sculpture, bronze casting, and a traditional workshop area. We believe that you learn best by trying things out and experiencing them for yourself. We call this hands-on approach ‘thinking through making’.
However, we are part of a modern university with an international reputation and connections and as such we have a wealth of cutting edge facilities and resources. We have one of the best 3D workshops in the country! The philosophy we try to adopt here at Kingston is that of blending traditional skills and expertise with the latest technology. Our staff are practitioners in their specialisms so you’ll be taught by professionals and we have a wealth of industry connections and partners.

The Kingston School of Art at Kingston University, London is one of the best art and design schools for teaching and research in Europe and, in some subject areas the best best in the world.
Our teaching is guided by two principles. Firstly, that students learn by making, by developing their proposals in to form. Secondly, that students are already nascent practitioners and as such are a part of the critical discussion and development of their chosen field. This takes place under one roof at our Knights Park campus, where we have been for 75 years. Our heritage lies in the Kingston School of Art, founded in 1875.
Our lecturers are leaders in their fields and with the students we participate in national and international projects, showcases and competitions. Our reputation means that we work with prestigious institutions and companies, which affords students access to real projects, networks and experience. We count many Britain's leading professionals in art, design and architecture among our graduates, including Jasper Morrison, GittaGschwendtner, James Irvine, Helen Storey, Caryn Franklin, Glenda Bailey, John Richmond, Shelley Page, Fiona Banner, David Nash, and Matthew Hilton.
We are pleased to have collaborated with a partner in India with whom we are building a premiere design school, the Indian Institute of Art and Design. With them we are developing and will validate Kingston University degrees in Foundation, Communication Design, Interior Architecture and Design, and Fashion Design. Please join us and the IIAD for your design education.
