This year, IIAD welcomed a new batch of design students with a virtual orientation ceremony. With the COVID pandemic that has gripped the world, the institute embraced this ‘new normal’ by hosting the event online. Shyam Attreya, Assistant Professor, Communication Design introduced the students and their parents to the community. They were made familiar with the resources and facilities at the institute, the rules and regulations, and the calendar of academic events.

Dr. Jitin Chadha, Founder & Director, IIAD, welcoming the new batch of students said – “Congratulations on one of the first pivotal decisions of your adulthood! We welcome our budding designers and look forward to seeing you evolve into individual thinkers and practitioners”. He then went on to introduce the Keynote speaker.

Mr. Sanjay Saxena, Director (Worldwide IASP) IBM was the chief guest and keynote speaker at the orientation event. As this was an Online Orientation he addressed the young designers from his UK Office. In his address he not only spoke about grappling with the Post Covid 19 world personally and professionally but also the global opportunities of working and studying remotely. As he discussed how creative design is a huge multifaceted career opportunity and why it is so relevant and essential for the future, he said “disruptive innovation is becoming more commonplace and you, the students, are forecast to be the people, who will be accelerating the pace of change. What better subject than, to study design! To re-imagine, everything around you.” He further stressed the importance of “deliberating and creating the future as the current generation of designers”.

Professor Usha Patel, Dean Academics, spoke about the essence of design education in today’s world. She encouraged the students to make use of the facilities and resources on campus and open up to the world of design.   The event was attended by the Director, Dean Academics, Administrative Head and the Faculty Members and Staff of IIAD.  Dr Sunita Gupta Konwar, Course Leader, Fashion Business Management, gave the vote of thanks bringing the event to its close. Through their online orientation programme, the institute extended a warm welcome to its new members as they embark on this journey of learning, growing and evolving as designers.
