Varun Shashni graduated in Knitwear Design from National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. He further went on to pursue Fashion Design through an Exchange Program from Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester, United Kingdom followed by a Masters of Design in Apparel Design and Merchandising from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

Varun is currently associated with Biba Apparels, New Delhi as a Senior Design Manager, where he is involved in research, conceptualization, design overview and execution, capsule collection development, sampling and design presentations. As an Apparel Designer, he holds extensive experience in the field of garment design, specifically catering to the retail industry. He has previously worked with companies like Venus Garments India Limited, Hennes & Mauritz India Pvt. Ltd. (H&M) and Fabindia Overseas Private Limited. His expertise lie in concept and range development, trend study, silhouette development, illustration, sketching, pattern development and, colour and material development.

During his association with Fabindia Overseas Private Limited, he travelled to specific craft hubs across the country to work with craftsmen as part of a Design Project that involved revival of crafts like the hand block printing craft of Bagh, in Madhya Pradesh and, exploring the craft of Kantha at Ketugram, West Bengal. As a Designer for Womenswear at Fabindia Overseas Private Limited Varun acquainted himself with designing apparel and accessories across all women’s wear categories. He also worked on creating craft led collections, focusing on various weaves and print crafts of India. At Fabindia he also led the seasonal buyer presentations showcasing new collections and forecast for the coming seasons.

Varun has done substantial research on exploring and understanding the various textile craft traditions of India. In addition, he has also conducted extensive research wherein he documented the costumes of men and women of the Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh.

At IIAD, Varun will be mentoring the Fashion Design students on developing a multi-dimensional approach to design, while stressing on the analogy between the different aspects of design.
